Industry Council Posts White Paper 2 on CDM

The Industry Council on ESD Target Levels, following the White Paper on HBM that was published in August 2007, now releases, as the second in the series, the White Paper on charged device model, or CDM. This document can be downloaded from the following Windows Live SkyDrive folder: http://cid-53ef348c10c88f42.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/WP2-CDM?authkey=XFTPMXqDts8%24 (It may be necessary to copy and paste the entire url into your browser.) It is also located at http://www.esdforum.de/files/Industry%20Council%20White%20Paper%202%20Rev1%20March%202009.pdf.

August 2009 update: The ESD Association also has posted the CDM White Paper (WP2) at http://www.esda.org/documents/IndustryCouncilWhitePaper2.pdf and has a complete page devoted to the Industry Council at http://www.esda.org/IndustryCouncil.html. JEDEC has approved WP2 and will publish WP2 in its format soon. It will join WP1 on the JEDEC site as discussed below.

White Paper 1 (HBM) has been approved by the world's leading standardization bodies of the ESD Association and JEDEC, and can be found on the two respective web sites (with the JEDEC version known as JEP155), http://www.esda.org/ and http://www.jedec.org/. Pointers are also found elsewhere in this blog.

The Council appreciates any feedback from the general public. Please direct all questions and comments on both documents to one of the following individuals:

*** Industry Council's Request ***

Following the publication of the White Paper 1 on HBM and MM ESD component target levels, the Industry Council is currently preparing a detailed 2nd white paper on proposed component CDM target levels. During this time we are eager to collect some questions from prospective readers so that we can be better prepared to answer them in the document. This will enable us to address all the pertinent concerns upfront with valuable feedback from customers/suppliers/system board manufacturers whom we anticipate will review the recommendations. Please see the sample question given below. Also please note that the aim of this document will be to exclusively address the component level CDM levels for handling and production in all normally ESD protected areas.

Sample Question: If the production area controls for HBM are in place and sufficiently meet the recommended 1kV target levels, would the same methods also provide the necessary protection CDM as well?
